Greek lyric poet, friend of the poet Alcaeus
and leader of a female literary coterie at
Mytilene (now Lesvos, hence lesbianism).
Legend says she committed suicide when her
love for the boatman Phaon was unrequited.
Only fragments of her poems have survived.
