Private residence of the British sovereign,
built 1863 by the Prince of Wales (afterwards
Edward VII) 1869-1971. The house is built on
the estate the prince had bought in Norfolk,
NE of Kings Lynn, in 1863. It is named after
the nearby village of Sandringham. George V
and George VI both died in the house, and
Elizabeth II modernized both it and the
estate.
