Bird of the family Pteroclidae, related to
the pigeons. It lives in warm, dry areas of
Europe and Africa and has long wings, short
legs, and hard skin. Sandgrouse may travel
long distances to water to drink, and some
carry water back to their young by soaking
the breast feathers.
