Zi Xi, or Tzu-Hsi 1836-1908. Dowager empress
of China. She was presented as a concubine to
the emperor Hsien-Feng. On his death 1861 she
became regent for her son T'ung Chih, and,
when he died in 1875, for her nephew Guang Xu
(1871-1908).
