Infectious disease caused by the bacterium
Salmonella typhi, and usually contracted
through contaminated food or fluids. It is
characterized by fever and damage to internal
organs, mainly the spleen and intestine.
Treatment is with antibiotics. The combined
TAB vaccine protects both against this and
the milder, related condition known as
paratyphoid fever.
