US film-production company, formed 1935 when
the Fox Company merged with Twentieth
Century. Its president was Joseph Schenck
(1878-1961), and Darryl F Zanuck (1902-1979)
was vice president in charge of production.
The company made high-quality films and,
despite a financial crisis in the early
1960s, is still a major studio. Recent
successes include the Star Wars trilogy
(1977-1983).
