Mountainous area of central and NW Romania,
bounded to the south by the Transylvanian
Alps (an extension of the Carpathians),
formerly a province, with its capital at
Cluj. It was part of Hungary from about 1000
until its people voted to unite with Romania
1918. It is the home of the vampire legends.
