A salt or ester derived from sulphuric acid.
It is characterized by the SO4^2- ion (salt)
or SO4 group (ester). If only one of the
hydrogen atoms from the sulphuric acid reacts
with a base or alcohol, the resulting product
is a hydrogen sulphate (bisulphate), which
still has acidic properties.
