An independent kingdom before it fell under
Mughal rule, Oudh regained independence
1732-1856, when it was annexed by Britain.
Its capital was Lucknow, centre of the Indian
Mutiny 1857-58. In 1877 it was joined with
Agra, from 1902 as the United Provinces of
Agra and Oudh, renamed Uttar Pradesh 1950.
