Message sent by Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany
to President Kruger of the Transvaal 3 Jan
1896 congratulating him on defeating the
Jameson raid of 1895. The text of the
telegram provoked indignation, in Britain and
elsewhere, and represented a worsening of
Anglo-German relations, in spite of a German
government retraction.
