North Korean Communist politician and
marshal. He became prime minister 1948 and
president 1972, retaining the presidency of
the Communist Workers' party. He likes to be
known as the `Great Leader' and has
campaigned constantly for the reunification
of Korea. His son Kim Jong Il (1942-), known
as the `Dear Leader', has been named as his
successor.
