Corunna, (Spanish La Coruna).
City in the extreme NW of Spain; population
(1993) 242,400. It is the capital of Corunna
province. Industry is centred on the
fisheries; tobacco, sugar refining, and
textiles are also important. The Armada
sailed from Corunna 1588, and the town was
sacked by Francis Drake 1589.
