Corrie, (Welsh cwm; French, American cirque).
Scottish term for a steep-walled hollow in
the mountainside of a glaciated area
representing the source of a melted glacier.
The weight of the ice has ground out the
bottom and worn back the sides. It is open at
the front, and its sides and back are formed
of aretes. There may be a lake in the bottom.
