In archaeology, an Old Stone Age
culture that came between the Mousterian and
the Solutrian in the Upper Palaeolithic. The
name is derived from a cave at Aurignac in
the Pyrenees of France.  The earliest cave
paintings are attributed to the Aurignacian
peoples of W Europe about 16,000 BC.
