A chain of mountains stretching the length 
of Italy they are a continuation of the
Maritime Alps. From Genoa they cross the 
Italian peninsula to Ancona on the east
coast, then return to the west coast and on
down into the "Toe" of Italy. The chain then
continues over the Strait of Messina, along
the north coast of Sicily, then, via a series
of islands across the Mediterranean sea to
the Atlas mountains of North Africa.
