1905- . Polish writer who made his name with
Poem for Adults 1955, a protest against the
regime that preceded the fall of the
Stalinists in 1956. In 1957 he resigned with
others from the Communist Party, disappointed
by First Secretary Gomulka's illiberalism. He
also wrote novels and plays.
