Waverley, John Anderson, 1st Viscount
Waverley 1882-1958. British administrator. He
organized civil defence for World War II,
becoming home secretary and minister for home
security in 1939 (the nationally distributed
Anderson shelters, home outdoor air-raid
shelters, were named after him). He was
chancellor of the Exchequer 1943-45.
