1905-1986. British novelist. His later
novels, such as The Young Caesar and Imperial
Caesar 1958-60, are based on Classical
themes, but he is better remembered today for
his earlier works, such as The Aerodrome
1941, which are disturbing parables based on
the political situation of the 1930s.
