1818-1890. British art collector. He
inherited a valuable art collection from his
father, the Marquess of Hertford, which was
given in 1897 by his widow to the UK as the
Wallace Collection, containing many
18th-century French paintings. The collection
was opened to the public in 1900 and is at
Hertford House, London.
