1887-1959. Brazilian composer. His style was
based on folk tunes collected on travels in
his country; for example, in the Bachianas
Brasileiras 1930-44, he treats them in the
manner of Bach. His works range from guitar
solos to film scores to opera; he produced
2,000 works, including 12 symphonies.
