1908- . French artist, born in Hungary. In
the 1940s he developed his precise geometric
compositions, full of visual puzzles and
effects of movement, which he created with
complex arrangements of hard-edged geometric
shapes and subtle variations in colours. He
was active in Paris from 1930, then in the
south of France from 1960. He initially
worked as a graphic artist, concentrating on
black and white.
