1495-1545. English organist and composer. He
wrote masses and motets in polyphonic style,
showing great contrapuntal skill, but as a
Protestant renounced his art. He was
imprisoned 1528 for heresy, and, as an agent
of Thomas Cromwell, assisted in the
dissolution of the monasteries.
