1492-1536. English translator of the Bible.
The printing of his New Testament (the basis
of the Authorized Version) was begun in
Cologne 1525 and, after he had been forced to
flee, completed in Worms. He was strangled
and burned as a heretic at Vilvorde in
Belgium.
