1907- . Dutch zoologist. He was one of the
founders of ethology, the scientific study of
animal behaviour in natural surroundings.
Specializing in the study of instinctive
behaviour, he shared a Nobel prize with
Konrad Lorenz and Karl von Frisch 1973. He is
the brother of Jan Tinbergen.
