The special municipality of Tianjin has an area of 4,000 sq km/1,544 sq mi and a population of 8,190,000. Its handmade silk and wool carpets are renowned. Dagan oilfield is nearby. Tianjin was opened to foreign trade 1860 and occupied by the Japanese 1937.
