1856-1924. US architect, who worked in
Chicago and designed early skyscrapers such
as the Wainwright Building, St Louis, 1890
and the Guaranty Building, Buffalo, 1894. He
was influential in the anti-ornament
movement. Frank Lloyd Wright was his pupil.
