1609-1642. English poet and dramatist. He was
an ardent Royalist who tried to effect
Strafford's escape from the Tower of London.
On his failure, he fled to France and may
have committed suicide. His chief lyrics
appeared in Fragmenta Aurea and include `Why
so pale and wan, fond lover?'
