1774-1843. English poet and author, friend of
Coleridge and Wordsworth. In 1813 he became
poet laureate but is better known for his
Life of Nelson 1813, and for his letters. He
abandoned his early revolutionary views, and
from 1808 contributed regularly to the Tory
Quarterly Review.
