1579-1657. Flemish painter of hunting scenes
and still lifes. Based in Antwerp, he was a
pupil of Brueghel the Younger and later
assisted Rubens and worked with Jordaens. In
1608-09 he travelled in Italy. He excelled at
painting fur, feathers, and animals fighting.
