1839-1899. French Impressionist painter,
whose landscapes include views of Port-Marly
and the river Seine, painted during floods in
1876. Sisley studied in an academic studio in
Paris, where he met Monet and Renoir. They
took part in the First Impressionist
Exhibition 1874. Unlike most other
Impressionists, Sisley's style developed
slowly and surely, without obvious changes.
