His spare images and language reflect
everyday speech. His epic poem Paterson
1946-58 celebrates his home town in New
Jersey. Pictures from Brueghel 1963 won him,
posthumously, a Pulitzer prize. His vast body
of prose work includes novels, short stories,
and the play A Dream of Love 1948. His work
had a great impact on younger US poets.
