1891-1947. Journalist and Labour politician.
She was an early member of the Independent
Labour Party and an active campaigner for
women's suffrage. As a member of parliament
for Jarrow in 1936, she led the Jarrow March
of 200 unemployed shipyard workers from
Jarrow to London.
