White, E(lwyn) B(rooks) 1899-1985. US writer,
long associated with The New Yorker magazine
and renowned for his satire, such as Is Sex
Necessary? 1929 (with the humorist James
Thurber). White also wrote two children's
classics, Stuart Little 1945 and Charlotte's
Web 1952.
