1755-1831. Welsh actress. Her majestic
presence made her suited to tragic and heroic
roles such as Lady Macbeth, Zara in
Congreve's The Mourning Bride, and Constance
in King John. She toured the provinces with
Roger Kemble, her father, until she appeared
in London to immediate acclaim in in Otway's
Venice Preserv'd 1774. This led to her
appearing with Garrick at Drury Lane. She
retired in 1812.
