1910-1989. US physicist and amateur
geneticist, who worked with John Bardeen and
Walter Brattain on the invention of the
transistor. They were jointly awarded a Nobel
prize 1956. During the 1970s Shockley was
severely criticized for his claim that blacks
were genetically inferior to whites in terms
of intelligence. He donated his sperm to the
bank in S California established by the
plastic-lens millionaire Robert Graham for
the passing on of the genetic code of
geniuses.
