Capital of South Korea, near the Han River,
and with its chief port at Inchon; population
(1985) 9,646,000. Industries include
engineering, textiles, and food processing.
It was the capital of Korea 1392-1910, and
has a 14th-century palace and four
universities. It was the site of the 1988
Summer Olympics.
