1902-1965. US film producer whose early work includes King Kong, Dinner at Eight, and Little Women all 1933. His independent company, Selznick International (1935-40), made such lavish films as Gone With the Wind 1939, Rebecca 1940, and Duel in the Sun 1946. He had under contract Alfred Hitchcock and Ingrid Bergman who together made several films. He launched the careers of director George Cukor and actors Katharine Hepburn, Fred Astaire, Gregory Peck and Joan Fontaine.
