antiwar protest songs, such as `Where Have
All The Flowers Gone?' 1956 and `If I Had A
Hammer' 1949. Seeger was active in left-wing
politics from the late 1930s and was a victim
of the witch-hunt of Senator Joe McCarthy in
the 1950s. As a member of the vocal group The
Weavers 1948-58, he popularized songs of
diverse ethnic origin and had several hits.
