1958- . British National Hunt jockey. He was
champion jockey 1982 (shared with John
Francome) and from 1986 to 1990. In the
1988-89 season he became the third jockey to
ride 1,000 National Hunt winners; in Feb 1989
he became the first person to ride 150
winners in a season and went on to increase
his total to 221. He broke the record for
highest number of winners in a jumping
season: 151, with 4 months of the season
still to go. He has won over 30% of his
races.
