1891-1966. German conductor. He collaborated
with Schoenberg, and in 1919 founded the
journal Melos to promote contemporary music.
He moved to Switzerland in 1933, and was
active as a conductor and teacher. He wrote
two texts, Handbook of Conducting and The
Nature of Music. During the 1950s he founded
a music publishing house, Ars Viva Verlag,
and an electronic studio at Gravesano.
