1886-1967. English writer, author of the
autobiography Memoirs of a Foxhunting Man
1928. His War Poems 1919 express the
disillusionment of his generation. Educated
at Cambridge, Sassoon enlisted in the army
1915, serving in France and Palestine. He
published many volumes of poetry and three
volumes of childhood autobiography, The Old
Century and Seven More Years 1938, The Weald
of Youth 1942, and Siegfried's Journey 1945.
He wrote a biography of the novelist George
Meredith 1948 and published Collected Poems
in 1961.
