1923- . Canadian artist, active in Paris from
1946. In the 1950s he developed an Abstract
Expressionist style and produced colourful
impasto (with paint applied in a thick mass)
paintings and sculptures. His Encounter 1956
(Wallraf-Richartz Museum, Cologne, West
Germany) is a typically rough-textured
canvas.
