1892-1967. US playwright. His works include
The Adding Machine 1923 and Street Scene
1929, which won a Pulitzer Prize and was made
into an opera by Kurt Weill. Many of his
plays deal with such economic and political
issues as the Depression (We, the People
1933) and racism (American Landscape 1939).
