1761-1821. Scottish engineer who built the old Waterloo Bridge and old London Bridge (reconstructed in Arizona, USA). Rennie studied at Edinburgh University and then worked for James Watt from 1784. He started his own engineering business about 1791, and built bridges (Waterloo Bridge, London, 1810-17), canals, dams (Rudyard dam, Staffordshire, 1800), and harbours.
