writer and film critic, who lived in Britain
from 1938. His first feature film, Saturday
Night and Sunday Morning 1960, was a critical
and commercial success. His other movies
include Morgan 1966, The French Lieutenant's
Woman 1981, and Sweet Dreams 1986.
