1888-1972. British film magnate. Having
entered films in 1933 to promote the
Methodist cause, he proceeded to gain control
of much of the industry through takeovers and
forming new businesses. The Rank Organization
still owns the Odeon chain of cinemas and
Pinewood Studios, although film is now a
minor part of its activities.
