1943- . British socialist, feminist,
historian, lecturer, and writer. Her pamphlet
Women's Liberation and the New Politics 1970
laid down fundamental approaches and demands
of the emerging women's movement. Rowbotham
taught in schools and then became involved
with the Workers' Educational Association. An
active socialist since the early 1960s, she
has contributed to several left-wing
journals. Her books include Hidden from
History, Women's Consciousness, Man's World
both 1973, Beyond the Fragments 1979, and The
Past is Before Us 1989.
