1877-1910. British engineer who joined with Henry Royce in 1905 to design and produce cars. Royce trained as a mechanical engineer at Cambridge, where he developed a passion for engines of all kinds. After working initially at the railway works in Crewe, he set up a business in 1902 as a motor dealer. Rolls was the first to fly nonstop across the English Channel and back 1910. Before the business could flourish he died in a flying accident. Royce had trained as a mechanical engineer and worked in railroad production and as a car dealer before joining up with Royce.
