1887-1934. German leader of the Nazi
`Brownshirts', the SA (Sturmabteilung). On
the pretext of an intended SA Putsch
(uprising) some hundred of them, including
Rohm, were killed 29-30 June 1934, known as
`the Night of the Long Knives'.
