1620-1694. French Baroque sculptor who developed a powerful and expressive style. He created a muscular statue of the tyrant Milo of Croton 1672-82 (Louvre, Paris) for the garden of the palace of Versailles. Puget worked in Italy 1640-43 and was influenced by Michelangelo and Pietro da Cortona. After 1682 he failed to gain further court patronage because of his stubborn temperament and his severe style.
